Hi
You will probably know me via my flickr account - lodekkafs, as I note you have several of my late fathers photo's on this site.
I am fascinated by your new site and very much look forward to its development.
My connection to Redfern is via my father, Alan Read, who worked with Alf Chambers from 1975 to 1980. My father organised the tour programmes and as a youngster between the age of 11 and 16 I spent many many hours at Lindley Street.
As well as some of the people you already have on your site, such as Alf (of course), his son Chris (about my age) and iconic drivers such as Ken Bamford (who in the late 80's I did a 2-man job to Southern Italy), I recall other people such as Steve Wood (Painter), Malcolm Clamp, Ivor Chadwick, George Fewkes (who came via Kirkby, Harthill) and Ken Burnside (who owns K&S Coaches). There are others whose name escapes me at the moment.
Vehicles I recall were Bedford/Duple JVE377F, BMB562F, Bedford/Plaxton TVG63K, UNU178K, JRC772N, LNN301P, OAU929P, RRR905R, SHP692R, TAU546R, CNU613T, CTV332T, JRB330/1V plus a Bedford PJK that was something like P??600M. The Regent V's 850/4FNN and 962PRR were superb, plus the ill fated 853FNN that met its end in collision with East Midland Leyland National 597. From Kirkby came an FLF VWC49 but that didn't last long, then later came the Fleetlines (with Bristol grilles) FJA199/205D and one other.
I hope I have recalled all the vehicles, and hopefully I have remembered their registrations but I stand corrected on the odd one of course.
If I can be of any assistance please let me know and if you would like a picture of my father to add to the site I will find a suitable one from the period.
As you may know, my father severed ties with Redfern in 1980 to form Maun International Coachways. Between 1975 and 1980 his sister company Maun International Travel Consultants was part of the Redfern Travel Group.
My current role out of interest is as Operations Manager for Stagecoach in Chesterfield, based at Stonegravels, a position I have held since 1999, being a Stagecoach Manager since leaving my fathers Maun business in 1990, which was also the last time I saw Chris.
Best Regards
Stephen Read
