typical work day Garage style (pre Keith!)
8 o'clock ish get to work (just before Alf!) have a cup of tea, 9 am Enid the cleaner would arrive and make us a cup of tea!. 10.30 tea time tea & a walk to shop on wood street for fresh filled cobs. short spell of work, around 12.30 till 1.30(ish) walk to Wesfield pub for a pint and chip cob usually accompanied by Alf or a couple of the drivers, back to work for a couple of hours! 3.30 school runs empty garage (summer season) game of football in garage again usually participated in with Alf! 4.30 buses back and washed & cleaned inside would stay and help til 6 ish before either going back to Westfield for a drink or sit in the office chewing the fat with Alf or work on a little later restoring double deckers some times til 9 and 10 at night .
Favourite trick of mine was to work late to help clean the buses then realise was to late to catch bus to Nottingham for Night of college for city & guilds, more often than not alf would throw the keys to his V8 Rover Sd1 Vitesse and let me use that!
Ah those were the days and the company still made money!!
Then Keith arrived and knocked us into shape! we probably would have all been complete wasters if he hadn't, didn't think so at the time but we were young and stupid then. We now are older and much more stupid!

god that was a good time of day!!
grown ups all out collecting kids from school and us back at the ranch holding the fort on our own!! emmmm nahh dont thinkso
we were messing about, playin hide n seek n setting mantraps, i can remember coming back from the shop up the street "late dinner yr honour"
and shoutin me mate but no reply!!!! i searched every were but couldnt find him, only to find out that i was soon to be hosepipied from the rafters in the roof, he,d climbed up in the roof girders with the hose pipe and proceeded to wet anyone that walked under him, "bloomin winter as well"
and when every one came back from schools we raced round to get the busses washed & parked, even Alf helped wash em.
you dont get many MD'S helping do that anymore "he allways drounded us with the hose, "gettin his own back" in a nice way of course.
coz he knew we had been buggering about whilst he was out.
none of this discaplinary malarky
"just straight talkin" a sort of ballocking yorkshire style
"how u miss the funniest of things"
now we aint got that nowadays!!
mot "old school" stylie
I remember when the mot day came around once a year and we all looked like a shot from the lost boys, coz we'd all slept there to do a weeks work in a two dayer straight thru, and sleeping at work just to get the end result,
God aint life changed.
Also getting the privillage to wash Alfs audi quattro and being handed the keys, and being told in that unforgetable way
"nowthen tommo dont start it up coz its a beast" you ask our youngunn!!
you should of seen my face when i had the keys in my hand of an audi quattro i was only 16 "kid in a sweet shop or wot" woodus lad or not i never even thought of knicking off init honest "only dreams"
A bit like life on mars and Geene Hunt " but short arsed version"
